Tiger Cubs in the Man Cave (Garage)

The Pack 4 Pinewood Derby is coming up on April 19 so the Tiger Cubs decided to spend our March Den Meeting getting started on our cars. The kits were handed out at the Blue & Gold Banquet a couple of weeks ago that included: a block of wood, axles, wheels and weight.

We started with drawing our basic shape on the block of wood.
Riley and his dad, Kenny.

Brian, Jason and Owen.

Then after a bit of a shop safety lesson we powered up. With all of the boys I helped with the bandsaw.

Ethan.

Nico.

Brian.

Owen, who also got the goggle safety test to see that I couldn't poke him in the eyes.

Then off to the sanding table. Something that hasn't changed for generations is the question while sanding.... "is this smooth enough?"

One kid actually finished their car.. and it turned out looking like an airplane.

Jason.

For rounding corners we used the disc/belt sander.

Owen's dad got into the zen of sanding by hand.

While the only mom present of course said we had to read the instructions.

We ended the afternoon with chocolate chip cookie bars.

Uncle Leo made sure everyone used proper safety.

Everyone is on their own to finish sanding and painting. The suggestion was made to hold off on putting on the wheels... otherwise it will turn into a toy and could get damaged before the big race.

Excellent job guys!
