Tiger Cubs Host the Pack Meeting

Tonight the Tiger Cubs hosted the Pack 4 meeting which mainly meant running the flag ceremony. The boys did an amazing job. At the last minute I sprung a change on them that would give all of them a reading/speaking part. Everyone had a chance to rehearse before the meeting so there was one run through.

The rest of the pack was quiet as the boys led the ceremony, which I'm sure was a great help.

The theme for tonight was citizenship in America, with that the boys read the following:

Our country’s name expresses the principles that we hold sacred as citizens of the United States of America.

“U” is for united. We are a country of citizens united under one government and dedicated to the cause of freedom and peace.

“S” is for states. Our country is a union of 50 states. We are proud of our individual histories, but we come together to defend what is right.

“A” is for America. A land of promise filled with opportunity and beauty. America is a patchwork quilt of cultures and a stronghold of religious liberty.

It was great to have all of the boys involved. We all should be proud.

Millard Hike

Some of the boys have said, "we're scouts and scouts hike. So when are we going hiking?" So even though it's been raining most of the week we set out to brave the chances of mud and flash floods to hike up to Millard Falls.

The first thing we saw was the bear warning sign.... so not only were we braving the elements, we were braving nature!

There were many river crossings along the way.

Russel our Den Chief was a big help.

Blake almost fell in.... but only lost a water bottle.

Riley's dad Kenny came real close to getting really wet.

We made it to the falls and had a snack.

Jason was the only one with proper shoes for the water.

And he used them.

We found a rock slide along the way.

Hike to Millard Falls

Sunday, Feb 15 at 2pm we are planning a hike to Millard Falls. See information at the link below.

We will be meeting in the parking lot at 2pm at Millard Falls just above Altadena. A map and information about the trail we will be taking are available at the link below. It's a very easy roundtrip hike to a waterfall of about a 1.4 miles that is relatively flat.

Bring a water bottle and a snack to have at the waterfall.

http://www.simpsoncity.com/hiking/millard.html

It is required that you have an Adventure Pass to park in the parking lot. If it's okay, I'll go ahead and pick up some day passes for everyone and you can just pay me back the $5 when you arrive. If you already have an Adventure Pass just let me know and I won't buy a day pass for you. If you're going to carpool to avoid the $5, let me know also so I know how many to get.

There's a possibility of rain, so we will be watching the weather reports. If things are cancelled, we'll send out e-mails and post it here. You can feel free to call Fred or Mark for the latest updates.

February Den Meeting - Food Pyramid

We had 5 boys at the Den Meeting this month hosted at Brian's house. The theme... food and fitness. We started out with some basketball and running around, then down to business. Den 3 is hosting the Pack meeting this month so we need to practice our flag ceremony.

Then we headed inside to work on our food pyramids. Brian's mom did an excellent job of putting together some information and activity pages for us all to learn about good things to eat.

It kept the boys interest and I think they learned something.

Brian's dad helped prepare the snack.

That included representative elements of all food groups.

Everyone had a fun time running around, even Zeke.
